1/21/2019 - A Student's Perspective of CS First and Scratch with Gavin and Anneliece Mattina

When I introduced Computer Science using CS First and Scratch to my niece and nephew in November 2018, they immediately loved it.  Since that time, they learned so much and have become confident in themselves.  They were determined to learn different concepts such as logical thinking, variables, loops, functions, the Scratch interface, and much more.   They were immediately hooked and eventually they created their own games and projects.

In addition, they learned the 4C's of education and the 4P's.  The 4P's are problem solving, problem probing, patience, and perseverance.  The 4C's are communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. In my opinion, I reference these skills as computing skills and much needed life skills too. They learned from their mistakes and never gave up.  They continued to help each other overcome their difficulties, show respect and kindness to others in the Scratch community, plus they are confident enough to search for their guidance and answers in the Scratch community.

Listen to our conversation about their learning experience and their recommendations for other students to learn computer science.   I am extremely proud of them both.
